In the past decade we as a society have been able to use the internet in more advance ways than ever before. We can download or upload data freely, we can publish what we think and the internet has brought us closer together. I think government intervention on the internet will not be efficient or effective giving the cases in the past century.
The ability to download and upload data has made the internet more useful, not only it makes information readily available but helps us make decision in a faster process. The people of the United States are able to publish what they think on the internet, having a beneficial tool such as the internet we can make publishing faster, easier, and cost effective. The internet has brought us closer together with communication tools such as Facebook, Twitter and Google Blogger and having demonstrated ability to help us communicate and organized.
I think government has it place in helping the people be safe but regulating social networks and the internet will not make the internet a safe place. It will cost the people more tax dollars and give groups such as “anonymous” incentives to find loop holes to penetrate the systems. I think the decision should be in place with the people, not the government.
I think the government monitors the web to much and should limit what they view. However, The government gets most of its information through social networking sites whether it be tracking terrorist or big time criminals. The best place to locate or investigate these individuals is throuh social networking sites. I personally think the government should have acces to these sites.
ReplyDeleteI agree in that the government should have access to these types of social networking sites or any other website to investigate counter terrorism and threats to public safety. There are many things that people put on the internet that can be very important to agencies when looking at potential threats. At the same time, there are lines where the government should be careful they do not cross with personal information. What many people do not realize is that much of the information they are posting on the internet is being viewed by everyone, nothing is private. I think that as long as the government isn't going to extra lengths to breach our privacy and dig into our personal files, anything that you put on the internet is public information so it is okay if they view it. As far as the government regulating the internet and its use I think that is unnecessary. Although there are many dangers in internet use I think many other positives have come out of it and like other things something people are going to abuse it.
ReplyDeleteIt is scary to think that the government could be getting information from us off of social networking sites (even though they probably aren't because they've already got all of our information anyway).
